2007 Saturn Award Nominations

It may not be the Oscars, but The Fountain picked up three nominations from the Academy of Science Fiction Fantasy & Horror Films including Best Science Fiction Film.  It also received nods in the categories of Best Actor and Best Special Effects.  Check out the official site for the 32nd Saturn Awards for the complete list of nominations.

Clint Mansell is getting recognized for the powerful and moving soundtrack he composed for The Fountain.  The Broadcast Film Critics Association nominated him for best composer, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association nominated him for a Golden Globe in the category for Best Original Score.

Despite the very divided critical reaction to the film, New York Film Critics OnlineAwards for 2006 have named The Fountain among the 10 best films of 2006.

For those keeping up with all the Aronofsky interivews, but just want more--well, here they are: Aronofsky has done an exclusive interview with ComingSoon. The Fountain comes out the the 22nd of November so if you aren't excited, we're not really sure what's wrong with you.  If you need some Fountain related goodies to feed your needs you may want to check out Wire's indepth article about the movie or (if you haven't been in a while) head on over to the official website, which (in Aronofsky film tradition) provides a cool little cyber world to wander around.

Well, it looks like we will be waiting a little longer to see The Fountain.  If you go to Box Office Mojo you will see that the new starting date is November 22. 

New Fountain One Sheet

We've got a new poster for The Fountain via Aint it Cool News and Jo Blo. Where as the  one that Aaron linked to last update seemed to stress the romantic aspect to the film, this one seems to more heavily highlight the scifi component of the movie. It'll certainly be interesting to see which direction the studio takes the marketing of the film.

There has been another screening of The Fountain and that means more reviews. I want to keep completely spoiler free myself so I'm not reading them, but if you want, head over to Ain't It Cool and Joblo and give them a gander.

Oh, and by the way, IMDb has now listed the release date as October 2006. Is it right? Maybe.

The Fountain Not Showing At Cannes

Apparantly Variety jumped the gun the other day when they reported that The Fountain was chosen for the Cannes film festival. Variety has now unveiled the official selections and unfortunately, The Fountain is not one of them. It's disappointing I know, but hey, I wasn't going to be there anyway.

The Fountain At Cannes

Variety is reporting that The Fountain has been chosen to play at this year's Cannes film festival. The film will screen in competition in May.

The Fountain was shown last night in LA at a test screening Warner Bros. conducted to see how to best market the film. And, well, I'm not sure how to feel about this. Jealous? Excited? Maybe surprised, 'cause you know I think I may have subconsciously had doubts that this movie was ever made, like it all may have been some big hoax. Well apparently it is real and finished. Pat P. sends us some comments about the film from AICN, Walter's Thoughts and the IMDb Message Board. Click those links for more.

The Fountain at Cannes?

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that The Fountain is being "strongly considered" by the Cannes festival committee as one of this year's films. Will this come to fruition? We can only hope.

We would also like to congratulate the co-star of The Fountain, Rachel Weisz, for her Best Supporting Actress Oscar win for her role in The Constant Gardener!
