New Cast Memember On Untitled Scifi Film & Darren's EW Mentions

June 27, 2001: Today, Variety's Michael Fleming reports that Cate Blanchett is now in negotiations with Darren Aronofsky to star in his "untitled sci-fi project." Many of you may remember that a while back it was reported that Brad Pitt was onboard, now we have confirmation that Blanchett is the second person casted. Now that two cast members are involved, I'd say it is safe to predict that we should be getting at least a brief plot summary sometime soon, and hopefully the name of the film. (Learn more about the project by clicking here, to read an interview with Darren about that film among others.)

In other news, Entertainment Weekly came out with there "It-List" double issue last week and Darren is mentioned twice: The first time when Matthew Libatique was named "It Cinematographer" for his incredible work in both Aronofsky's Requiem For A Dream and Joel Schumacher's Tigerland. The second when comic-god, Frank Miller was named "It Comic Book Project" for signing on to write Batman: Year One with Darren Aronofsky, and also because he is busy creating the comic book sequel to his popular Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, which is considered by many to be the greatest comic ever written, and is a bible among bat-fans. Miller said this about the Batman character:

I see Batman as a Wagnerian character, I take the words 'larger than life' very seriously -- which is why I draw him seven feet tall. (Thanks to 'Heather' and 'Krazy Kid' for giving us the heads up!)
