No 'Batman' or 'Fountain' for Darren?

July 1, 2002: Variety reports that Darren Aronofsky's Batman: Year One may be replaced by Wolfgang Peterson's Batman/Superman flick at Warner Bros. and Warner Bors. has put The Fountain (perviously titled Last Man) on hold. If this is at all untrue or pre-mature, can anyone 'in the know' PLEASE email us? Otherwise, read...

THE FOUNTAIN.
Recently our pal 'Andy' sent us an email about a New York Post story stating that Requiem star Ellen Burstyn was now officially onboard Aronofsky's The Fountain.
Unfortunately yesterday Variety ran a story from an interview conducted with Warner Bros. president-chief operating officer Alan Horn. Horn said the following:

"[The Fountain is] on hiatus. It was greenlit at a budget in the $60 million range, and it came in higher, so it's off the table right now. It's not a go. Everything has to work together."

The article's author, Dana Harris, then gives us a little bit of hope along with some confusion by adding:

When it does, 20th Century Fox-based New Regency is already in place to split the costs. "Arnon (Milchan) expressed such passion for it," Horn says. "They were able to come in on a partnership position."
(Thanks to 'Andy)

BATMAN: YEAR ONE.
Nearly a week ago, Aint It Cool News posted a rumor stating that filmmaker Wolfgang Peterson's Bat-film had been greenlit and that Aronofsky's Bat-film may now not happen.
In the same Variety story that revealed the disapointing Fountain news, it was revealed that Aint It Cool News was correct:

Last year, the studio brought Darren Aronofsky on board to develop "Batman: Year One"... But the superhero project that has the greatest likelihood of moving forward, Horn now says, is "Batman & Superman," in which the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight join forces against evil. Wolfgang Petersen is attached to produce, develop and possibly direct.
(NOTE: Warner Bros. has had a number of Batman projects in development and Year One has always been just a strong candidate.)

RACHEL WEISZ.
Although we usually try to stay away from personal info regarding Darren, it can be noted that actress Rachel Weisz recently stated that she was dating Darren Aronofsky. They had kept the relationship a secret for a year, but now Weisz is moving to New York to live with Darren.
And a note to all site-readers: Aronofsky.Net will never run any unconfirmed rumor or negative info about Darren's personal life--we're a fansite because we love his FILMS.
(Thanks to 'Josh' and again to 'Andy')
