Aronofsky Sets Up Shop At Universal
Variety is reporting that Darren Aronofsky and his Protozoa Pictures company have signed a first-look production deal with Universal, along with Focus Features and Rogue Pictures. Through the deal, Aronofsky and producing partner Eric Watson will develop and produce films for the studio. Some of the films Aronofsky will direct himself, while others he will just produce.

The article also mentions that Protozoa are currently developing Theodore Roszak's Flicker at Fox, Black Flies at Paramount, and Song of Kali at Warner Bros., based on a Dan Simmons Novel.

Nice post Aaron. I just wanted to add a little bit for those who haven't been reading Aronofsky.Net forever:

Flicker is a "is a conspiracy thriller that takes a disturbing and revisionist look at film history" (more here) that Aronofsky is set to (hopefully) direct.

Black Flies is another project Aronofsky has been in talks to direct (click here for more on that one).
Song of Kali is a film that Darren and Eric Watson will produce, although Aronofsky will not direct. Here's what Variety said about the film in January, 2004:
[Song of Kali] follows an American poet who travels with his Indian wife and their baby to Calcutta. He's supposed to be picking up an Indian writer's epic poem cycle about the goddess Kali, an ancient Indian deity of evil whose only clothing is a girdle made of dead men's hands. When he arrives, however, he finds the poet has disappeared under mysterious circumstances involving a cult that worships the goddess.

Also, new projects are expected to be announced soon for this production deal with Universal. So expect more Aronofsky goodness coming our way in the near future...
