More Reviews For The Fountain (And Maybe A Release Date)
Topic: The Fountain
There has been another screening of The Fountain and that means more reviews. I want to keep completely spoiler free myself so I'm not reading them, but if you want, head over to Ain't It Cool and Joblo and give them a gander.

Oh, and by the way, IMDb has now listed the release date as October 2006. Is it right? Maybe.

The Fountain Not Showing At Cannes
Topic: The Fountain
Apparantly Variety jumped the gun the other day when they reported that The Fountain was chosen for the Cannes film festival. Variety has now unveiled the official selections and unfortunately, The Fountain is not one of them. It's disappointing I know, but hey, I wasn't going to be there anyway.

The Fountain Screens
Topic: The Fountain
The Fountain was shown last night in LA at a test screening Warner Bros. conducted to see how to best market the film. And, well, I'm not sure how to feel about this. Jealous? Excited? Maybe surprised, 'cause you know I think I may have subconsciously had doubts that this movie was ever made, like it all may have been some big hoax. Well apparently it is real and finished. Pat P. sends us some comments about the film from AICN, Walter's Thoughts and the IMDb Message Board. Click those links for more.

If anyone else caught the flick, feel free to send in any reactions...we'd love to hear from you!

Update: Moviehole gives us another positive review.

The Fountain at Cannes?
Topic: The Fountain
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that The Fountain is being "strongly considered" by the Cannes festival committee as one of this year's films. Will this come to fruition? We can only hope.

We would also like to congratulate the co-star of The Fountain, Rachel Weisz, for her Best Supporting Actress Oscar win for her role in The Constant Gardener!

Aronofsky Not 'Lost', But 'Flicker' is Next Flick?
Topic: Flicker
Pat P. let's us know that Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Darren Aronofsky will unfortunatly not be able to film an episode of hit television show Lost this season, despite previous reports. However there is still hope that Aronofsky (a big fan of the show) will be able to do an episode sometime next season. "The timing didn't work out," Aronofsky tells EW. "I'm expecting a child."

The article also mentions that Flicker, an adaptation of Theodore Roszak's thrilling novel, is set to be Darren's next film. I've heard from a bunch of you guys out there and I know that a lot of you are really anticipating Aronofsky's adaptation of this book, so this will be good news for you all. For those who are clueless as to the details or history of the project, go check out this story from our news archives.

New Fountain Pic, Plus Requiem Parody
Topic: The Fountain

I actually meant to post this earlier in the day, but here it is just a few hours late: Latino Review gives us a glimpse of an all new and especially cool looking picture from The Fountain. Click the image on the right for a closer view. Now tell me, does this pic help hold you over until the film's release or does it just make you even more anxious?

Also, a couple of people have alerted us (thanks guys!) about a pretty funny and well made Requiem For A Dream parody online. If you have a couple of minutes, be sure to check out Toy Story 2: Requiem.

Aronofsky Sets Up Shop At Universal
Variety is reporting that Darren Aronofsky and his Protozoa Pictures company have signed a first-look production deal with Universal, along with Focus Features and Rogue Pictures. Through the deal, Aronofsky and producing partner Eric Watson will develop and produce films for the studio. Some of the films Aronofsky will direct himself, while others he will just produce.

The article also mentions that Protozoa are currently developing Theodore Roszak's Flicker at Fox, Black Flies at Paramount, and Song of Kali at Warner Bros., based on a Dan Simmons Novel.

The Fountain Nears Completion
Topic: The Fountain
IESB recently conducted a red carpet video interview with Aronofsky's fiancé and Fountain co-star Rachel Weisz. Weisz let word slip that Darren is currently completing sound mixing on the film and that the movie should be "totally finished in about a week."

We at Aronofsky.Net make an effort never to report on any rumors about Darren Aronofsky's personal life. However, Weisz and Aronofsky have officially announced that Weisz is five months pregnant. I'd like to end this post by saying congratulations to both!

Three Fountain Interviews
Topic: The Fountain
Daniel Robert Epstein lets us know that three interviews he conducted with crew members on the set of The Fountain are now online thanks to UGO.Com. The interviews are with Director of Photography Matthew Libatique, Producer Eric Watson and Production Designer James Chinlund. I was going to put some quotes up from the interviews, but honestly they're excellent in their entirety and you all should read 'em for yourselves. Click the links above for the three interviews.

Also, I noticed that Watchmen, the adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel, which once had Aronofsky attached as director, is now alive at Warner Bros. Although, there is no word on whether Aronofsky may return as the project's helmer, I thought that readers may at least want to know that the possibility exists.

More Graphic Novel News, Plus King Kong Premiere
Topic: The Fountain
Once again, Pat P and John M keep us updated on The Fountain graphic novel info. It seems that Vertigo has updated their site with a summary of the graphic novel along with a downloadable preview of the book as well as a downloadable mini-poster.

In some miscellaneous news, The New York Times reports that Darren Aronofsky attended the premiere of Peter Jackson's King Kong. The NYT caught up with Mr. Aronofsky at an after-party in which the filmmaker said, "It was a very sad movie." He then joked that, "it doesn't put me in the party mood. I’m going to go give money to the WWF or the Nature Conservancy."

Great Graphic Novel Buzz
Topic: The Fountain
Some excellent reviews of Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain graphic novel have popped up around the net.
Broken Frontier claims the graphic novel "is infinitely superior in story and art to anything superhero books have produced in years and it gets deeper and deeper with each successive reading."
The Comics IGN reviewer writes that "if [The Fountain film] carries the soul of the graphic novel, it may just be one of the best movies of 2006."
Meanwhile, the Nashville City Paper raves that the graphic novel is "a fascinating, moving account of love, life and death...a true example of what comics can do, melding words and pictures together to tell a story unique to the medium."
In related news, Newsarama has a great new interview up with Aronofsky about the graphic novel and a little about the film as well. Head on over and check it out.
(Thanks to 'Pat P' and 'John M' for the heads up!)

Aronofsky Talks! Teaser Hits Wednesday!
Topic: The Fountain
Aint It Cool has caught up with Mr. Aronofsky and managed to get the low-down on exactly what is happening with his "psychedelic fairy tale." While The Fountain still has no release date, Darren speculates that it will take "until the end of February or so" to complete all 200 VFX shots they have left to do.

While that seems like a long time to wait, don't worry, because Apple.com will have a new 30 second teaser up sometime tomorrow. And for those of you looking forward to the graphic novel, it will be in comic book stores sometime mid-November, and everywhere else December 1st. Lastly, Darren has said that "there’s going to be a lot more stuff" on the The Fountain website to look forward to.

In the meantime, go to Aint It Cool and read the entire interview where Darren talks more about The Fountain, Clint Mansell's score, directing Lost and much much more. A link for the teaser will follow as soon as it becomes available.

Life After The Fountain
Topic: Black Flies
Variety reports Paramount Pictures has acquired the rights to the novel Black Flies by Shannon Burke (Safelite), and they have none other than Darren Aronofsky in mind to direct. Negotiations are already underway with Aronofsky and his production partner Eric Watson. The novel has yet to be published, so details concerning the book are sketchy at this point although it is said to involve "a young man who becomes an emergency medical technician in Harlem."

"The book is a good match for Darren because he likes to explore the depths of human emotion, and he is unsparingly honest," Paramount producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura told Variety.

We'll follow with more details as they are available.
